Fight Black Friday! A Series on Prioritizing Meaning over Materialism

A frenzy of parties and presents, feasts and fun… During the holiday season, it can be difficult to stay focused on our priorities: to spend wisely, find quality time with loved ones, or continue to exercise and eat healthy. Embracing the spirit of the holidays doesn't mean showing everyone with luxury; it means finding ways to connect and add meaning.

A Harris Poll found that the median household in America spends more than $850 on holiday expenses like presents, decorations, greeting cards, and food. For those who haven’t budgeted ahead, these costs can accumulate on credit cards. Racking up interest on holiday purchases is no way to start the New Year.

This month, Mindfully Spent will focus on low-cost ways to deck the halls and show our love to friends and family. In addition to general cost savings tips, we’ll cover:

  • Giving gifts that matter
  • Fresh DIY ideas for gifts and décor
  • Creative ways to pay for brand new holiday gifts

...AND for those who can’t completely eliminate shopping from their list (this is most of us, right?), we’ll also feature two small businesses that have infused deep meaning into every step of their operations while providing stylish, reasonably-priced gifts and decorations.
